A member of the Myrtaceae family, West Indian Bay is also known as Bay Leaf and Bayberry oil. It is produced by steam distillation.
Indigenous to West Indies, West Indian Bay is best known as a fragrance in pomades and other hair applications. It is also the secret ingredient in the men's cologne Canoe, popular in the 1950's and 1960's.
West Indian Bay is golden-yellow in color with a distinctive green-spicy top and a spicy bottom. It blends well with many essential oils, including vanilla, clove, cinnamon, lavender, ylang ylang and the citrus oils, especially lemon, lime and grapefruit.
