A member of the Orchidaceae family, vanilla is native to Tahiti and the former Polynesia. Our Vanilla CO2 extract is grown on Reunion Island in an area now known as the Mascarene Islands.
Much like Orris Root requires aging, Vanilla does not develop its characteristic odor until the green pod is taken off the vine and cured. This process can taken upwards of 15 months. Our Vanilla extract is somewhat viscous and contains vanilla crystals which come from the vanillin crystals present on the cured pods. It is a creamy-yellow color.
The sweet balsamic odor of vanilla is deep and rich. It blends well with other florals and bottom notes such as sandalwood, vetiver, Styrax benzoin, peru balsam and spice oils, such as coriander and cinnamon.
