A member of the Fabaceae family, Peru Balsam is native to Central America. Our Peru balsam essential oil is a resin-free steam distilled product from San Salvador. It has a flashpoint of > 200F.
Peru balsam essential oil is pale yellow in color. All parts of this tree contain resin, Peru balsam is a "pathological product" ; the resin is obtained by stripping the bark off the tree.
The characteristic odor of Peru balsam is sweet and reminiscent of vanilla. It is best used as a fixative and note in Oriental and Floriental perfume blends.
