Using the Snowdrift Farm method, making cream soaps is easy. We recommend using 75%-90% KOH and 10-25% NaOH to create these products. The greater the amount of KOH used, the softer the cream will be.

Rhassoul Body Polish
Rhassoul clay lends body, color and texture to this whipped cream soap recipe.
Oils Phase
(by weight)
2 oz. palm stearic acid
6 oz. coconut oil
4 oz. palm oil
3.7 oz. shea butter
.3 oz. castor oil
Water Phase
(fluid measure)
1/4 teaspoon rhassoul clay
1 oz. silk protein
1 oz. glycerin USP
18 oz. distilled water
Lye by weight:
Essential Oils Blend
12 drops myrrh essential oil
8 drops frankincense essential oil
20 drops sandalwood essential oil
20 drops rosewood essential oil
3 drops rose or tuberose absolute(optional)
Process:
Hydrate rhassoul clay in water overnight. The next day, agitate with a stick blender until you have a slurry. Weigh oils and prepare lye-water mix. Add silk protein and glycerin to lye-water mix. Mlt hard oils and butters til fluid. Add to lye-water. It is not unusual to see a curdled mass at this point. This is due to the stearic acid becoming neutralized by the lye. Using a stick blender, blend for 1-2 minutes at a time, allowing the blender to rest for 2-3 minutes before whipping again. The mix may take 5-10 minutes to become homogenous. About halfway through the mixing, add your essential oils mix, if using. There is a danger of separation if you do not mix long enough. You will eventually develop an instinctual feel for "trace" with these materials. In the meantime, the best way to describe trace in a whipped cream soap in that it is much thicker than regular cold process soap when it traces. You will also note a shift in creaminess when the soap is at trace.
When your soap has traced, pour into waiting sterile wide-mouth jars or tubes. Cover tightly. Allow to stand for approximately 7-10 days before using. Test pH. It should be around pH 8-9 range.

a medium density soft soap, perfect for exfoliants and other additives.
Oils (by weight)
4.6 oz. sweet almond oil
6 oz. coconut oil
4 oz. palm oil
2 oz. stearic acid Lye (by weight) = 2.4 oz. KOH & .7 oz. NAOH
Water (distilled) = 20 oz. (by weight)
PLUS 1 oz. by weight liquid glycerin.
Melt hard oils and butters until fluid. Combine the glycerin and the water, then carefully sprinkle the mixed lye over the surface. Mix well to ensure that the lye dissolves completely. Add the oils to lye-water. Cream soaps like to be processed warmer (140 +) than CP soaps It is not unusual to see a curdled mass at this point. To make Exfoliating Foot Soap, add 1-2% of the weight in cream soap you will be using. For instance, if you make a 10 oz. batch, add .1 -.2 oz. of pumice and 20 drops each of tea tree, Bulgarian lavender and peppermint essential oils.
