Lemon Eucalyptus
In July 2002, the New England Journal of Medicine
reported that E. citriadora out-performed every other
non-DEET insect repellant alternative.
According to the report, "preliminary studies suggest
that the oil of eucalyptus products will confer longer-
lasting protection than other available plant-based
repellants." (1)
E. citriodora is a mildly warming oil with a relaxing scent that is good to use in massage as a chest rub during the cold season. Its high citronellal content gives lemon eucalyptus its pretty lemon scent and makes the perfect insect repellent. Its other properties include antiseptic, urinary, pulmonary, antispasmodic, and fungicidal. Lemon eucalyptus blends nicely with woody notes, including cedarwood and juniper, and with green notes such as basil and lavender. Try also citrus blends -- lemon and grapefuit.
