How to Make Facial Masques

How to Make Facial Masks

Here are several easy to make facial masques for both men and women. Do not apply near eyes -- place cucumber slices over them, instead. Then sit back, relax and allow the masque to work its wonders.

Tired of the same old thing? Need a NEW twist? Try our self-heating FACE MASKS!

Milk and Honey Self-Heating Mask

Just like at the spa! This mask is non-drying, meaning it will remain wet on your skin, and not dry out like other masks. This is particularly useful for dry and sensitive skin types. The honey and milk in this formula help to slough off dead cells, revealing fresh, radiant skin. As you apply the mask, you will sense a gentle heating. Relax and enjoy!

Wet Ingredients:

4 teaspoons liquid glycerin
2 teaspoons propylene glycol
1 teaspoon polysorbate 20

3 drops rose absolute (optional)

Dry Ingredients:

1 teaspoon white kaolin clay
2 teaspoons bentonite OR red kaolin or rhassoul clay

1 teaspoon honey powder (at the grocery store)
1 teaspoon milk powder, pulverized*

*to pulverize milk, push powder through a tight-meshed sieve.

Process:

Combine all wet ingredients in a small glass bowl or jar. Set aside. Combine dry ingredients in a medium glass or stainless bowl by sieving all materials through a tight-mesh screen.

Combine wet and dry ingredients using a whisk. Keep leftovers refrigerated
in a sterile airtight container. Toss after 2 days, if unused.

Gently Moisturizing Self-Heating Mask

Men love this non-drying mask. The peppermint helps refresh and revitalize, and the Evening Primrose Oil adds nutrients. Feed your face!

Wet Ingredients:

4 teaspoons liquid glycerin
1/2 teaspoon Evening Primrose oil

2 teaspoons propylene glycol
1 teaspoon polysorbate 20

3 drops peppermint essential oil

Dry Ingredients:

3 teaspoon white kaolin clay
2 teaspoons rhassoul clay

Le Clay Masque

Our clay masque formula uses wheat gel to provide controlled thickening and stabilize the emulsion. Natrasorb is used in conjunction with the clays to absorb oils. The masque should be applied in a thin layer and allowed to dry. Wash off with water. Finish with a mild soap wash and rinse.

Water Phase

Distilled water or distillate, or make your own flower water - 3 cups

Wheat gel - ½ tablespoon

Methylparaben - .2% (a very scant pinch)

Polysorbate 20 - 2 teaspoons

Oil Phase

Glyceryl monostearate - 2 teaspoons

Palm stearic acid - 2 teaspoons

Wheat germ oil - 1 tablespoon

Fragrance, as desired

Clay Phase

¾ cup bentonite

Natrasorb 100 - ½ cup

Kaolin clay - ¼ cup

Process:

Dissolve the methylparaben into the water and add the wheat gel by sifting. Set aside. Prepare oil phase. Warm oil phase to 145F. Warm the water phase to 145F also. Combine both phases using a stick blender. Combine dry ingredients. Sift slowly into wet ingredients and mix well til the masque is tight and light. Package warm into small sterile jars with wide mouth opening.

Pink Clay Masque for Normal-Dry Skin

This masque works well to normalize oily spots. Leaves skins smooth and hydrated after a thorough rinse.

Phase A

2 TABLESPOONS + 2 TEASPOONS BENTONITE CLAY
1/4 TEASPOON WHEAT GEL (to tighten pores)

Phase B

1 TABLESPOON DISTILLED OR PURIFIED WATER or distillate
1/2 TABLESPOON PURE LOCAL HONEY
1/2 TEASPOON JOJOBA OIL (OPTIONAL- use if making for normal-dry skin)
1/64th TEASPOON (barely a half a pinch) POTASSIUM SORBATE,
AS A PRESERVATIVE.

(Use if you're making up a bigger batch, or if you intend to market this to the public and have no idea how long it may sit until used.)

Process:

Mix clay and wheat gel in sterile container. Break-up any lumps in clay. Mix water and honey and warm to 85 degrees F. Mix again to ensure a good incorporation. Drizzle the honey-water over the clay/wheat gel mix, then agitate (with a sterile whisk) to blend thoroughly. Apply to face. Avoid the eyes/eye area. Allow to dry, then rinse off with warm water. Pat skin dry. Voila!! If packaging, try the 4 oz. plastic squeeze-type bottles in a boston round shape.

Detoxifying Facial Masque

Natrasorb is used in conjunction with the clays to absorb oils. The masque should be applied in a thin layer and allowed to dry. Wash off with water. Finish with a mild soap wash and rinse.

Water Phase ·

Distilled water or distillate, or make your own flower water - 3 cups

Fragrance, as desired @ 1% of batch weight
Phenonip - ¼ teaspoon

Method:
