How to Make Hair Conditioners

Sure-Fire Bath Bombs from Snowdrift Farm
Good for all hair types; especially formulated for color treated hair.

7 Ingredient Gentle Basic Hair Conditioner

All measures by weight.

Water Phase:

56 oz. distilled water or hydrosol BY WEIGHT (70.5%)
4 oz. Soy quat (4.5 %)
1 oz. Lactic Acid (1.0 %)

Oil Phase:

14 oz. high oleic sunflower seed oil (17.5%)
3.6 oz. Emulsifying Wax (4.5 %)
1 oz. Phenonip (1.0%)
1 oz. Vitamin E oil, natural (1.0%)

Procedure:

The soy quat is fairly heat sensitive and should be mixed cold to prevent problems. Water should never be added to the quat as it will coagulate. Weigh the water into your process container on the scale. Add the quat slowly and mix well using a fork or whisk as you add it to prevent clumping. The resultant mixture will have a milky appearance because an emulsion forms. Add lactic acid slowly, mixing well throughout the addition.

Set mixture aside and agitate occasionally as you prepare the oils. Combine the oil ingredients together and melt slowly in the microwave. Use 30 second cycles at half power to melt these ingredients. Pour the oil phase into the water phase and mix using a stick blender. Continue mixing as the emulsion forms, and mix until it begins to thicken. Pour into waiting sterile containers.
