Welcome to our Fall 2008 soap, lotion and perfume classes.
We usually teach these classes twice yearly, in April and October. Due to a serious illness, one half of our teaching team will not be able to teach in April. Because of this, we have decided to cancel the April 2008 classes. The next classes we will offer will be held in October 2008.
Please check back in summer 2008 for more details and registration information. We have left the information from the October 2007 classes here on this page as the classes listed below will be the same in October 2008.

Cold Process Soapmaking for Beginners
Wednesday, October 24, 2007
10am - 4pm
Trina and Bill Wallace, instructors
Come make soap! No previous experience required, but useful. You'll be surprised at the beautiful creations we can make from simple, natural ingredients.
During the first hour or so, we'll review safe soapmaking procedures, discuss the chemistry of soap and ingredients and mold choices. We'll handle materials such as essential oils, clays, proteins and other additives that help us achieve color, texture and scent. And we'll share some tips and techniques we've learned over the years.
After breaking for lunch, we'll return and make soap! We usually make 2-3 batches of soap, and class size is being limited so we can make as much soap as possible. I'd like to make a batch of goats milk soap with a swirl so you can see how easy it really is and exactly what the results you can expect when pouring milk on top of lye.

| Basic Perfume Blending
Friday, October 26, 2007
10 AM - 4 PM
For all levels.
Trina and Bill Wallace, instructors
Spend the day and play with scent!
This class will explore the differences between essential oils, absolutes, resins and other forms of pure plant extracts.
Learn to classify essential oils into types: the building blocks of perfumery. Understand the vocabulary used in this ancient art and science: have you ever wondered what the difference was between an Eau de Toilette and an Eau Fraiche? Do you know the difference between "floral" and "fougere"?
Using pure essential oils, absolutes and CO2 extracts and fortified with your new knowledge of scent types and how they are prepared, we will both sample and prepare classic blends. Then, we'll create a few of our own, in both alcohol and non-alcohol bases.
Of the three classes, this one involves the least amount of chemistry and the most olfactory satisfaction. Creating a new blend is as easy as finding a clean bottle, your oils, some diluent and droppers. And don't forget your journal!
