A member of the Lauraceae family, bay laurel also known as Sweet Laurel or Roman Larel is an evergreen native to the warmer climates of the Mediterranean. An essential oil by steam distillation is produced in several countries throughout the region, including Italy.
Bay Laurel is green-yellow in color with a clean, slightly medicinal odor, background spicy note. It blends well with light woods, such as cypress and juniper, oils high in linalyl acetate, such as lavender and rosemary, or bottom notes such as labdanum (cistus) or clove.
